about
Lilly , she/her, b. 1993
naarm / melbourne
I am a painter living and working on Wurundjeri Country in Naarm. I studied design and architecture in Meanjin and my painting practice is self-directed.
My work draws on memory, found objects, shared meals, conversations, and the people closest to me. I paint things discovered in op shops and second-hand markets, objects hidden in cupboards in my family home, details glimpsed in the background of childhood photographs, and moments exchanged between friends. These sources become entry points into larger stories about intimacy, identity, memory, and connection.
Friendship sits at the heart of my work. I paint my friends, the meals we share, the spaces we inhabit, and the stories we tell one another. Food frequently appears as both subject and symbol: an expression of care, community and ritual. Through close observation, I seek to honour the people, objects, and moments that populate my life, while also asking broader questions about belonging, and the ways we construct meaning from our personal histories.
